COMPOSITION
MY EXPERIENCE
Composition has led me to collaborate with mostly avant-garde projects within the visual or performance world, such as composing for film, theater and dance as well as inform my performance practice in songwriting and free improvisation. I approach composition from several different angles–whether that be strictly using traditional notation or MIDI, improvising scratch tracks into ProTools, sound design as composition or soundscapes using circuit bent or effected acoustic instruments. Usually it's a combination of all these styles. Because of this I would consider my compositional style eclectic and adaptable to any project.
ARRANGEMENT
Besides composition, my experience as an integral member of several Los Angeles based bands, I love doing string arrangements for song writers. Fifty years ago a song wouldn't go without a full orchestra behind them, strings really have a way of awakening a song into it's full potential. The bonus with me as an arranger is that I can also play the parts I write on violin and viola and have several friends who play cello and double bass if their parts are needed.

WRITTEN WORKS
le monde (2011)
An area of study that I am currently investigating is the relationship between gaming, ritual and the occult arts. The idea of this piece is to have four performers play a card game which determines the outcome of the composition by adding melodic material to loop pedals, making a novel performance every time. The game play is similar to the card game crazy eights but using an altered tarot card deck of 52 cards. The World XXII is the symbol that ends a cycle, often represented as the 'cosmic egg', thus it is used as the last card of the game to end the cycle of the performance. Notation takes on a form similar to 'blacl' notation style of the 14th century, which coincides with the first appearance of tarot cards in medieval Europe.
